Now Open: Adeline Adeline

The brainchild of Julie Hirschfeld, formerly a founding partner at graphic design studio Stiletto, Adeline Adeline is a bicycle boutique, catering to fashionable customers in the market for beautiful city bikes. Julie has created a warm, inviting environment where aesthetics are embraced, not rebuked, resulting in the antithesis of a typical bike shop, where gruff, grime and hot-headedness abound.

We stopped in on a busy Sunday afternoon and were taken with the display. Not only can you literally reach out and touch them (I liked to touch the shiny lacquer-y turquoise and green bikes) but you can borrow them. For free. Like, you can ride away and test then out (as many as you want, for as long as you want) before committing to a hefty purchase. You can even schedule an individual consultation with one of the shop's experts!

As if all that weren't reason enough to visit, the store sells all kinds of great accessories (baskets! helmets!) and boasts a full repair shop in the basement, with a comprehensive price list on the website.

One day, when I win the lottery and am not completely petrified by the idea of riding a bike on city streets, I will purchase this Abici GranTourismo Donna. I love the turquoise color, the brown leather saddle, the high handlebars (more comfortable for those of use with outrageously long torsos):

Adeline Adeline is located in Tribeca at 47 Reade Street, between Greenwich and Hudson, two blocks from the West Side bike path.
